In this page you will get the detailed steps required in successfully applying for the Rhodes University RU NSFAS Application 2022. It should be emphasized that the South African government established this loan to satisfy the needs of deserving students who show academic promise.

Rhodes University RU Nsfas Application

Financial aid is comprehensive funding based on approved costs of study. The approved cost of the study is set annually by the Department of Higher Education and Training National Bursary Rules and Guidelines.

NSFAS will allocate funding to eligible students based on their approved cost of study; this does not include cover for clubs and societies or any penalties.

Applicants must check their My NSFAS portal for the outcome of their application. NSFAS will advise Universities of applicants and returning students funding eligibility status.

The registration (cost of study) costs will be submitted to NSFAS for eligible students after registration. NSFAS will only confirm the actual funding amount once registration cost data is received and processed by NSFAS.

It is important to note that NSFAS is not aware of the programme of study an applicant registers for until registration data is submitted. A student may have a funding eligible status, but registers for an unfunded course. NSFAS will not process/award any funding in this instance. It is therefore the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that they are familiar with the list of NSFAS funded programmes (available on their website).

Will all my costs be covered if I am successful?

NSFAS funding is based on the parameters set in the National Bursary Rules and Guidelines annually.

t the South African government established this loan to satisfy the needs of deserving students who show academic promise.

All students from families with a gross household income of less than R350 000 per year, qualify for an NSFAS-Bursary that covers their full cost which includes (tuition, residence, allowances for meals, personal care, and learning material). Students living with their parents, qualify for a living and transport allowance.

Therefore, the University focuses its own financial support efforts on the so-called “missing middle” where the gross family income is between R350 000 and R600 000 per year. In cases where there is more than one child of a family studying at a tertiary institution, families with an income of up to R1 million are also considered for financial assistance.

Very important note: The University, due to limited funding, cannot assist students with the full cost of their studies but strive to assist students with the cost of their basic tuition fees, excluding any additional module or program costs.
